Financial support from alumni, corporations, foundations and other friends of
Wayne State University strengthens our academic and research enterprises and
helps continue our contributions to the quality of life in Michigan and around
the world. Private gifts also keep us competitive and help enhance the
reputation of this institution.
The State of Michigan provides our core funding, but without private gifts and
grants this institution would not rank among the nation's leading public
research universities. Wayne State has achieved national or worldwide prominence
in many areas of scholarship and scientific discovery, and that level of
excellence is tied directly to our level of private support.
We are profoundly concerned to keep student tuition
and fees as low as possible. But the costs of attending any American college
or university are steadily increasing even as state support is declining.
With your financial support, tuition stays as low as possible and provides the
financial assistance needed to recruit the most qualified students.
Gifts may be designated to specific areas, or they can be unrestricted. Some
donors give to strengthen the university's academic and research resources,
or to support the addition or renewal of infrastructure. By improving academic
and student programs, as well as teaching and research facilities, private
gifts enhance the university's ability to recruit top students and
talented faculty.
Others give unrestricted gifts in appreciation for the contribution Wayne
State University has made to their lives and the lives of their families or
children. Still others want to ensure that future students have the opportunity
to experience a Wayne State education as they did.
You also may wish to make an unrestricted gift in honor of individual alumni,
friends, faculty, and administrators of the university who were and are a part
of the Wayne State community. Such gifts memorialize forever these individuals'
