Goal: $20 million for scholarships
Wayne State Scholars Program scholarships are awarded to academically gifted students who
have achieved significant success in high school and have a strong interest in community
service, leadership and/or public life.
Wayne State's annual recruiting event for the Wayne State's Scholar Program is called
Scholars Day. Each year metropolitan Detroit's most promising high school students
and their parents are invited to campus to learn why Wayne State should be their destination
school. Scholars Day activities include presentations by the university's schools and colleges,
a tour of campus and lunch. Most important of all are the student's personal interviews with faculty,
staff and alumni.
Every student who attends Scholars Day will be offered a $1,500 annual scholarship for four years.
Larger scholarship packages, up to and including full tuition, are available to students who participate
in this event. Scholarship packages will be awarded based on a writing sample, grade-point average,
test scores and personal interview.
To receive a scholarship through the Wayne State Scholars Program, a student must meet or exceed
the following criteria:
Minimum of a 3.5 GPA in high school
Apply and be accepted to Wayne State University
Provide ACT test scores
Provide an essay
