To Honor a School of Medicine Alumnus

In honor of her husband, Dr. Rudolf Wilhelm, who died of cancer in 2000, Amelia Wilhelm has created The Christopher D. Wilhelm, M.D. and Mark P. Wilhelm, M.D. Endowment for Research in Cancer with the residual of the annuity she started with the School of Medicine. Her sons Mark, a 1980 graduate and specialist in infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic, and Christopher, a 1981 graduate and specialist in internal medicine at Beaumont of Troy, will be advisers to the research funded by the endowment.
Mrs. Wilhelm has been an active member of the Friends of Wayne State University School of Medicine since 1974 and has served in every office for the group with the exception of secretary.
"I am happy to continue my involvement with this fantastic group and I hold the School of Medicine in high esteem," Mrs. Wilhelm said, noting that she is currently treasurer. "Of course, we always encourage new members to join with us in helping the School of Medicine with its many programs."
Amelia and her husband co-founded the Detroit Waldorf School in 1966. The school's 40th anniversary this year was a cause for celebration. "The school is my heart, my child," said Mrs. Wilhelm. "The Waldorf educational experience prepares children who are fresh, energetic, creative and ready to face the next level of challenges with a strong connection to humanity and a love for life. Along with my wonderfully talented daughter Cynthia, who currently teaches English to foreign students in the Birmingham schools, and my sons and their contributions to the field of medicine, this is my life's achievement."
