That Would Not Have Happened Without Wayne!

Diane Rockall and her husband "Rocky" in Caratracca, Spain

Diane Rockall's Charitable Gift Annuity will support the Diane M. Rockall Library and Information Science Endowed Scholarship, the Diane M. Rockall Endowed Fund in Alumni Affairs, the University Libraries General Fund, and the Women of Wayne and Alumni Association boards.

"It was the 1960s and I was working full time," Diane recalled. "Wayne State was the only place I could go to school and a freshman year scholarship was the only reason I could go to college at all. When my freshman year was over and there was no more scholarship money, for several years I could take only one class at a time. Then I got serious and completed my junior and senior years' work in 18 months and received my BA in journalism in 1970. I fell into my job in the reference department at the newspaper and was able to make a satisfying career of it. That would not have happened without Wayne State."

For career advancement, Diane went on to get a Master's degree in Library Science in 1977 as well as an Archival certification in 1994. She earned a Master's degree in History in 1995 "for fun." Diane worked as the head of The Detroit News reference department until her retirement in 1987.

An active alumna, Diane is past president of Women of Wayne and the Library Science alumni group. "There are good reasons for spreading my support among several areas at the university," she noted. "Scholarships are so important to help students struggling with school, work and family commitments. Women of Wayne and the various alumni groups are supporting very worthwhile projects on behalf of the university. I am happy to know my endowments will make a difference for upcoming generations of students."
